The English Language Arts Curriculum that SUPER School has chosen for Grades K-5 is called: Bookworms. Bookworms is a Reading and Writing program that teaches grade-level standards. Students are exposed to authentic, whole book texts that provides them with extensive background knowledge, which helps them read and comprehend more challenging texts. There are three separate segments of Bookworms: Shared Reading, ELA, and Differentiated Instruction. Each day, Shared Reading involves choral and partner reading a fiction or non-fiction story, learning about text structure, answering comprehension questions, and completing a written response. In ELA students are either getting direct writing instruction or completing an interactive read-aloud, with a grammar and vocabulary component, concluded by a written response. Differentiated Instruction is the component that works with students at their personal level. This is a time where students who are excelling can continue to work above grade level or if a student is struggling, they will receive structured support to fill in any needs.
